Bread and Butter

Twice in the early 1970s I had the privilege of sailing in Uganda, British India S.N. Co's wonderful old liner that had been converted into an educational cruise ship. I have some very fond memories of cruising around the Mediterranean and Baltic Seas as well as the shores of Northern Europe. One of our favourite jobs as cadets was running the evening disco for 900 students, many of whom were the same age as us. In our starched white mess jackets, well fitting black trousers and with control over the choice of music, we were very popular.

Not all of our tasks were so pleasant, however, as the story "Bread and Butter" explains.
